As the night falls on Thursday, a new chapter in Bangladesh’s political landscape is about to unfold. Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus is set to take the helm as the head of the interim government, with a team of distinguished advisers by his side. The swearing-in ceremony, to be held at the historic Bangabhaban, will see President Mohammed Shahabuddin administering the oath of office to this carefully chosen group.

In the quiet anticipation of the evening, vehicles departed from the Secretariat, making their way through the city to the residences of the incoming government members. These vehicles will carry them to Bangabhaban, where at 9 PM, they will take their oaths and officially assume their roles.

The interim government’s advisory council is a blend of experience and expertise. Dr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, a renowned economist and former governor of Bangladesh Bank, brings a wealth of financial knowledge. Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, with his military and electoral experience as a former Election Commissioner, adds a layer of strategic insight.

From academia, Dr. Asif Nazrul, a respected professor from Dhaka University’s Law Department, joins the team, while Adilur Rahman Khan, a well-known human rights activist, lends his voice to the cause of justice and equality. The inclusion of Hasan Ariff, a former adviser to the Caretaker Government, and Touhid Hossain, a seasoned former Foreign Secretary, highlights the depth of governance and diplomatic experience within this team.

Environmental concerns will be addressed by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, an accomplished lawyer specializing in environmental issues. The youth, whose energy and passion have often driven change, will be represented by Md Nahid Islam, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and Asif Mahmud Sajib, another influential youth leader.

Also taking their place as advisers are Supradip Chakma, a former ambassador and chairman of the Chittagong Development Board, development activist Farida Akhter, Bidhan Ranjan Roy, AFM Khalid Hasan, Noorjahan Begum, Sharmin Murshid, and Faruqui Aman. Each of these individuals has been selected for their unique contributions and expertise, promising a well-rounded and capable interim government.

As the clock ticks closer to 9 PM, the country watches with bated breath. The challenges ahead are formidable, but with Dr. Yunus at the helm and a council of seasoned advisers, there is a cautious optimism that this interim government will steer Bangladesh through these tumultuous times with wisdom and integrity.
