Ekushey Padak winner Prof Dr Moniruzzaman passes away

Ekushey Padak winner, teacher, writer and linguist Professor Dr Moniruzzaman passed away today. He was 84.

The government conferred the Ekushey Padak to him for 'language and literature' in 2023 while he, also, won the Bangla Academy Award for his contribution to essay literature in 2015.

The eminent professor was born on February 15 in 1940. He received his PhD in Linguistics from the University Of Mysuru (UoM) in India, reports BSS.

He has published thirty-five books on language, literature and folklore.

Dr Moniruzzaman was Professor and Chairman of Bangla Department of the Chittagong University.

Besides, he served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts in the same University. He was once the director of Nazrul Institute.
