Garment workers blocked the highway demanding due wages

Gazipur, Sept 17 - Workers of a garment factory in Gazipur’s Tongi blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on Tuesday morning with a procession demanding due wages.

This caused severe traffic jam on both sides of the highway, bringing commute to a standstill.

The workers were demanding three months of due wages from the Khapara Season Dress Limited garment factory in Tongi. The procession began from in front of the factory and blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Ershadnagar area.

At the time this report was filed (10:15 am), the blockade was ongoing.

Assistant Police Superintendent of the Industrial Police, Mosharraf Hossain, said that discussions are going on with the factory authorities. Efforts are being made to convince the workers to clear the road and restore normal vehicle movement.-UNB
