Traders Fined for Tk 750 Profit on Hilsa Sales

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined five traders Tk 42,000 for selling hilsa at Tk 2,200 per kg at Kawran Bazar wholesale fish market. The traders purchased the fish for Tk 1,450, netting a profit of Tk 750 per kg.


Following the government’s approval to export hilsa to India ahead of Durga Puja, local prices have surged. In response to rising costs, a DNCRP team raided the market on Wednesday and discovered a significant price discrepancy.

During the inspection, officials found that the traders lacked proper documentation for their purchases and did not maintain cash memos. The DNCRP has instructed traders to ensure they keep accurate records of hilsa transactions to prevent future penalties.
