BD Navy deploys 67 personnel to UNMISS in South Sudan

Dhaka, Oct 08 - A contingent of 67 members from the Bangladesh Navy departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday to participate in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) as part of the Bangladesh Force Marine Unit-10. This contingent will replace the Bangladesh Force Marine Unit-9, which has been serving in South Sudan.

In accordance with UN directives, the Navy's Force Marine Unit is deployed in South Sudan to contribute to global peace. Their responsibilities include ensuring the safe passage of barges carrying essential fuel, food supplies, medical supplies, and humanitarian aid in remote areas of Sudan. 

They are also tasked with monitoring and controlling piracy in navigable waters, assisting local populations in firefighting efforts, providing rescue services for injured military and civilian personnel, and offering emergency medical assistance.

For over two decades, members of the Bangladesh Navy have diligently and effectively fulfilled their duties to establish peace in various war-torn regions worldwide. In addition to South Sudan, the Bangladesh Navy warship “BNS Sangram” is also deployed as part of the only maritime task force in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Lebanon.-UNB
