DNCC Drive in Mirpur removes illegal battery rickshaws from main roads

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) launched a drive in Mirpur on Monday to tackle the illegal operation of battery-powered rickshaws on major roads. The operation focused on the main road in front of Mirpur Bangla School and College, running from noon until evening.

Led by DNCC Executive Magistrate Md. Mahbub Hasan, the drive resulted in the seizure of 102 battery-powered rickshaws and the confiscation of 376 batteries. The seized vehicles and batteries were later auctioned for Tk 18.5 lakh.

Executive Magistrate Md. Mahbub Hasan explained, “The widespread presence of illegal rickshaws on main roads is not only contributing to severe traffic congestion but also increasing the risk of road accidents. This drive is a step toward improving traffic flow and ensuring road safety.”

The operation was carried out with support from the Bangladesh Army, police, and Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO). Coordinators from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement also participated in the initiative.

This action is part of DNCC's ongoing efforts to address traffic violations and ensure safer, more efficient transportation in the city.
