Ex-chief justice Fazlul Karim passes away

Former chief justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim



Dhaka, Oct 16 - Former chief justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim died at a hospital in Dhaka early Saturday. He was 81.

Fazlul breathed his last at around 4:43 am at a hospital while undergoing treatment there.

The namaz-e-janaza of the former Chief Justice is scheduled to be held at the Inner Garden of the Supreme Court after Zuhr prayers today.

The judicial activities of the Supreme Court will remain suspended for Sunday, said a notice issued by its registrar general Dr Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan.

In 1982-83, he was elected to the office of Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association. He was also elected as a member of the Bangladesh Bar Council in 1992.

After retiring as Chief Justice of Bangladesh, he acted as chairman and party appointed arbitrator in a good number of civil and commercial disputes.-UNB
