15 Bangladeshis Return Home After 2 Years in Indian Jail
Fifteen Bangladeshi nationals have returned home through the Benapole border after serving two years in an Indian prison for immigration-related offenses.
The individuals, hailing from various parts of Narail, Khulna, and Satkhira districts, were handed over to Bangladeshi immigration authorities at the Benapole border post on Friday night.
Ibrahim Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Benapole Immigration Police, explained that the group had traveled to India two and a half years ago in search of work. They had crossed the border illegally with the help of local brokers and without valid travel documents.
Their journey ended when Mumbai police arrested them, and a local court sentenced each to two years of imprisonment for unlawful entry.
Upon completing their sentences, the Indian authorities transferred the group to Benapole Immigration Police around 10:30 p.m. on Friday.
Subsequently, the returnees were handed over to a representative of a human rights organization in Jashore, who will assist in reuniting them with their families.
