Students have been assembling at Central Shaheed Minar, Dhaka University, since early morning today (31 December) for the 'March for Unity,' following an announcement of a mass gathering made in the early hours.

Groups of students from across the country arrived in processions, proudly carrying the national flag. Upon reaching the Shaheed Minar, some began chanting slogans, as reported by local media. The main programme is scheduled to begin at 3 pm, with stage construction currently underway.

The call for the gathering was issued by student leaders at 1:45 am earlier today.

This march follows a prior announcement by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee for a programme titled "Proclamation of the July Revolution" at Shaheed Minar. However, the proclamation event was postponed after the interim government revealed its initiative on 30 December to prepare a formal declaration regarding the July mass uprising.

In response, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement pressed forward with the 'March for Unity.'

During an address earlier today, Chief Organiser of the platform, Hannan Masud, affirmed: "We revolutionaries will gather at Central Shaheed Minar as planned. The government's declaration may come, but that will not stop our march."

Following the government's announcement, separate meetings were held by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizens' Committee at their Banglamotor offices to reassess their plans. Several National Citizens' Committee leaders confirmed that during their meeting, they decided to suspend the proclamation programme at Shaheed Minar. A delegation from the Committee later met with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement to clarify the situation.
