Derailment halts train Communication from Rajshahi

Bogie of a train derailed near Sardah Station in Rajshahi



Rajshahi, Jan 13 -Train communication between Rajshahi and the rest of the country halted after a bogie of a train derailed near Sardah Station in Rajshahi on Monday morning, said a railway official.

Mamunul Islam, general manager of Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway, said the Chilahati-bound Titumir Express train left the Rajshahi Station at 6:20am. The Chilahati falls under Nilphamari.

The last of the 10 bogies of the train derailed near the Sardah Station after crossing Belpukur area, he said, adding that the rescue operations were underway.

Three trains-Dhaka-bound Madhumati Express, non-stop Banalata Express and another train - got stuck at Silk City Station, he said further.

The trains were scheduled to depart the station at 6:40am, 7:00am and 7:40am respectively, he informed.

Mamunul said that the train communication won’t be normal until the derailed bogie was removed from the track. Trains run on a single track between Rajshahir to Chilahati.-UNB
