Mymensingh, 28 Jan - Media Reform Commission Chairman Kamal Ahmed has emphasised that ensuring financial security for journalists is crucial to upholding their dignity.

He made the observation while exchanging views with journalists from electronic and print media in Mymensingh division at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium here on Tuesday.

“The commission's task is to propose recommendations for establishing a free, objective, and robust media landscape. Financial security is essential for fostering independent journalism, enabling reporters to work without constraints,” Kamal Ahmed said.

He urged journalists to pressurise the government to implement the commission's recommendations, noting that such measures are unlikely to be adopted without consistent advocacy.

Highlighting the importance of unity among journalists, Kamal Ahmed clarified that the wage board issue falls outside the commission’s jurisdiction.

He added that the recommendations would incorporate feedback from media consumers, as a nationwide National Media Survey was conducted from January 1 to 7, involving around 45,000 participants.

Journalists Babul Hossain, Delowar Khan, Sultan Mahmud Kanik, Harunur Rashid, Abu Saleh Md Musa, and Hossain Shahid, among others, shared their ideas and insights during the session.
