Army Chief Unveils 'Sinha Memorial Plaque' in Cox’s Bazar
In a poignant ceremony on Thursday, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman inaugurated the 'Sinha Memorial Plaque' in Shamlapur, Baharchhara Union, Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The memorial, constructed under the auspices of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Cox's Bazar Region, stands in tribute to Major (retd) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan.
According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the inauguration was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhajul Alam, Commander of the 10 Infantry Division and Cox's Bazar Area; Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Director General of the Border Guard Bangladesh; and senior officials from the Army, BGB, Police, and RAB.
In his address, General Waker-Uz-Zaman expressed heartfelt condolences to Major Sinha’s family and reiterated the nation's commitment to ensuring a swift and just trial for those responsible for his tragic killing. The Army Chief stressed that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
On the night of July 31, 2020, Major Sinha was fatally shot by police at a checkpoint in Shamlapur, Baharchhara Union, Teknaf. His untimely death sent shockwaves across the nation.
Born on July 26, 1984, in a distinguished family from Faridganj Upazila, Chandpur district, Major Sinha was the son of Bir Muktijoddha Mohammad Ershad Khan, a former Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance.
A highly respected officer, Major Sinha joined the Bangladesh Army on July 21, 2003, as part of the 51st BMA Long Course and was commissioned on December 22, 2004. Throughout his military service, he was celebrated for his intellect, skill, and courage. A trained bayonet fighter, he also served in the Special Security Force (SSF) and participated in a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast in 2013.
The inauguration ceremony was a moving tribute to his legacy, with Major Sinha’s mother and sister in attendance, alongside local officials and dignitaries. The memorial will stand as a symbol of his sacrifice and dedication to the country.
