A devastating fire at a pet shop in Beparipara Shapla Chattar, Jhenaidah, claimed the lives of hundreds of birds on Wednesday night. The blaze, which started around 10:30 pm, is believed to have been sparked by a mosquito coil at the shop owned by Kazi Iblu, which sold both foreign and domestic bird species.

Fire Service officials responded promptly to the scene and managed to control the flames after a brief struggle. However, numerous birds, including Lovebirds, Cockatiels, Bazrikas, Diamond Doves, and other species, perished in the fire.

The shop owner estimates the financial loss at Tk 8-10 lakh due to the destruction of both the birds and the shop's inventory.
