A member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), Nirmal Chakma, 37, was killed in a gunfight between UPDF and Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) in Rangamati this morning.

The clash occurred in the Khamarpara Taimidung area of Manikchari, under Shapchari union, where tensions between the two groups have recently escalated.

UPDF spokesperson Angya Marma confirmed the death, stating that the killing followed an attack by armed PCJSS members. "We strongly condemn this act and demand the immediate arrest of those responsible," Marma said.

Rangamati Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge M. Shahed Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the incident and noted that police were on their way to the scene. "Further details will be available after the body is recovered," said the OC.

The gunfight has sparked further concerns about the ongoing violence between the two groups in the region.
