Prof Yunus Calls for Urgent Action for LDC Graduation
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday stressed the need for urgent, coordinated actions from all relevant agencies to ensure Bangladesh’s smooth and timely transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
His comments came during a high-level meeting with the LDC Graduation Committee at the State Guest House Jamuna, where progress on critical deliverables was reviewed.
“This entire process hinges on coordination. We have already garnered the attention and support of investors, funders, and development partners. Now, we must build on these efforts and intensify our collective action to move forward swiftly and decisively,” Prof Yunus said.
Highlighting the importance of institutional readiness, he called on all stakeholders to work in harmony.
“We need a team that reacts like firefighters. When the alarm sounds, they must respond—quickly, efficiently, and with determination, staying until the job is done,” he added.
Prof Yunus assured that the Chief Adviser’s Office would play an active role in overseeing the process. “The highest office of the government will personally monitor the implementation of all graduation-related initiatives,” he stated.
During the meeting, the LDC Graduation Committee outlined five priority actions that require immediate attention:
Full operationalisation of the National Single Window with participation from all relevant agencies.
Implementation of the National Tariff Policy, 2023, through a clear action plan.
Execution of key measures under the National Logistics Policy, 2024, including critical infrastructure projects.
Operational readiness of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) at Savar Tannery Village.
Full-scale operation of the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) Park in Gajaria, Munshiganj.
“These are not mere routine tasks; each one is a critical step toward graduation and building a more resilient, inclusive economy,” the Chief Adviser emphasized.
Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Special Assistant Dr Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, and other members of the LDC Graduation Committee, along with policy advisers, attended the meeting.
