16 shops gutted in Gazipur market fire

Sixteen shop were gutted in a fire broke out at a kitchen market in Konabari area of Gazipur early Monday .

Station Officer of Konabari Fire Station Saiful Islam said the fire erupted at around 5:30 am at Konabari kitchen market and it spread rapidly, engulfing nearby shops.

“We suspect the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. The exact extent of the damage will be confirmed following a detailed investigation,” he added.

Upon receiving the news, four fire service units from Konabari and surrounding stations rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control after two and a half hours of joint efforts.

No casualties were reported.

Preliminary estimates suggest that extent of loss would be 25 lakh while fire service personnel managed to save goods worth approximately Tk 5 crore, said the fire service official, reports UNB.
