The Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur has issued a formal alert regarding an organised fraud ring targeting Bangladeshi nationals seeking employment in Malaysia’s Sabah province.

The Commission stated that fraudulent agents are collecting passports and money by falsely promising jobs in Sabah, even though there is no formal agreement between Bangladesh and Malaysian authorities for worker recruitment in that region.

It clarified that the Bangladesh government has not signed any memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Sabah, nor has it received any official request to recruit workers from there.

Discussions are currently underway with the relevant Malaysian authorities, the Commission added.

People have been strongly advised not to engage with these syndicates or submit personal documents or payments until an official agreement is finalised between the two governments.

The High Commission emphasised that all legitimate recruitment updates will be shared only through its official website.
