Bangladesh is to emphasize nature-based solutions to confront climate change crisis—SAU VC Prof. Latif

On the occasion of the World Environment Day 2026, a tree-planting program was held at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU), Dhaka on 5 June.
Highlighting the Government of Bangladesh’s and United Nation’s theme--“Inspired by Nature For Climate For Our Future” Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University’s 60th batch and Notre Dame College’s 99th batch jointly organized the tree-planting program on the university grounds as ‘sadaqah jariyah’ (ongoing charity) praying for the salvation of their deceased friends’ soul.
The program was auspiciously inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md Abdul Latif. In his opening remarks he said, “On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, the main aim of the Government of Bangladesh is to emphasize nature-based solutions to confront the climate change crisis and to ensure a sustainable future. This tree-planting program is a small effort within that larger initiative.”
The program was attended by faculty members, students, officers and staff of the university including Professor Dr. M. Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Dr. Malek Badsha, Dr. Anwarul Haq Juel, Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, and representatives from Notre Dame-99--Mehedi Hasan Shishir and Nazrul Islam Mallik, along with Deputy Registrar (Estate Wing) Md. Abdul Hamid and SAU PRO Md. Nazrul Islam.
Various fruit, forest, and medicinal tree seedlings were planted during the event.
