Army, BGB jointly clinch 5th Federation Cup Taekwondo title

Dhaka, 30 Aug - Bangladesh Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have jointly clinched the championship title in the men's senior division of the 5th Federation Cup Taekwondo Competition-2026.

Bangladesh Army emerged champions in the women's senior division, while BGB finished runners-up, according to a BGB press release issued this evening.

The three-day competition, organised by the Bangladesh Taekwondo Federation (BTF), was held at the National Sports Council Gymnasium in Paltan from August 28 to 30.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque attended the closing and prize distribution ceremony today as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners and participants.

BTF President and BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui presided over the programme.

Around 450 male and female taekwondo players from 22 teams, including Bangladesh Army, BGB, Bangladesh Police and 19 district sports associations, competed in various categories of the tournament, the release said.

In the men's senior division, both Bangladesh Army and BGB secured four gold and four silver medals each to share the championship. Chattogram District Sports Association finished runners-up with four bronze medals.

In the women's senior division, Bangladesh Army won four gold and two silver medals to claim the title, while BGB secured two gold and one bronze medal to finish runners-up.

BTF General Secretary Mahmudul Islam Rana, federation member and tournament committee convener Shairul Kabir Khan, and other federation officials and members attended the ceremony.

BGB regularly provides its members with opportunities for sports training and participation in competitions to promote discipline, leadership, physical fitness and mental resilience, while encouraging their contribution to the country's sports arena at national and international levels.BSS
