Summer National Athletics competition begins

Dhaka, 23 Sept -Sultana Kamal 16th Summer National Athletics competition has begun from Friday at Bangladesh Army Stadium in the city’s Banani, said a press release.

On first day of the first session, Bangladesh Navy’s athlete Umme Hafsa Rumki set the new national record in the women’s high jump event jumping 1.74 meter eclipsing the previous mark of 1.73 meter set by Bangladesh Army’s athlete Ritu Akter in the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey.

A total of eleven events have been decided till 1 pm with Bangladesh Navy dominated the medal tally with 13 medals including six gold, four silver and three bronze medals. Bangladesh Army following them with seventeen medals including five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.     

Bangladesh Ansar placed at third position in the table with three medals including one gold, one silver and equal number of bronze medal.

A total of 370 athletes --  286 of men and 84 of women – from 39 associations including districts and division sports associations, six universities, one physical education college, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan, eight affiliated military and civil forces are taking part in the two-day meet, sponsored by Alila Group and organized by Bangladesh Athletics Federation.
