DHAKA, Dec 10, 2021 (BSS)- Bangladesh started their Hero Asian Champions
Trophy campaign with a losing note as they went down a 1-4 goal defeat to
strong Japan in their only practice match held today (Friday) at Maulana
Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.
Although Japan dominated the start of the three-quarter match but Jimmy,
Khorshed and Mimo offered strong resistance in the last two quarters.
Bangladesh will take part in the Champions Trophy Hockey for the first
time as the host team where Japan has previous experience of playing in this
tournament. They are also runners up team in the third edition of the
tournament held 2013. Japan is much better side in terms of strength and
ranking than Bangladesh.
Bangladesh fell behind in the first quarter against Japan who showed
their strength by scoring three goals in the 5th, 10th and 11th minutes of
the match. Bangladesh however tried heart and soul to stage a fight back
after falling behind with three goals.
Bangladesh looked more organized in the second quarter. They also got a
penalty corner but failed to hit it. Japan picked up their fourth and final
goal of the match in the second quarter.
Bangladesh however showed good brand of hockey in the third quarter when
Khorsedur Rahman reduced the margin converting a penalty corner in the dying
moment of the match.
