Bangladesh Army, Kushtia district emerge champions

Dhaka, 13 Feb - Bangladesh Army and Kushtia district emerged champions in the services team category and club and District Sports Association (DSA) category respectively in the Water polo competition held at national swimming complex in the city's Mirpur today.

Bangladesh Swimming Federation (BSF) organized the two-day competition to celebrate the Festival of Youth 2025.

In the services team category final match, Bangladesh Army beat Bangladesh Navy with Mohammad Rashedul of Army was named the best player of the final.

While in the club and DSA category final, Kushtia district defeated Amla Swimming Club of Kushtia with Faridul Islam of the winning team was named the best player of the match.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Navy emerged top in the diving competition with two gold and three silver while Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan finished behind Navy with one gold medal.

Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad was the chief guest in the final and distributed the prizes.

Mizanur Rahman (Mia Bhai), vice president of BSF and chairman of Mia Bhai Foundation, the sponsoring organization, was present as a special guest.

Bangladesh Olympic Association director general Brigadier General Shamsul Alam Khan and BSF general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen were also present in the prize distribution ceremony.

Talking to the pressmen, BSF general secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shaheen said as there is no national water polo team so they have a plan to select players from the tournament to form a national water polo team for the first time.

The BSF general secretary said water polo team would be sent to play tournaments abroad by arranging training under foreign coaches.

He said that sponsors are being searching to start swimming camp throughout the year and federation has also decided to start the camp of the junior level.

A talent hunt program will also be launched soon, the federation general secretary informed. bss
