Archery starts its journey at RU

Dhaka, 15 March - A new chapter has been added to archery, the 

art, sport, practice or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows, in the country 
as this promising sports started its journey for the first time at Rajshahi 
University (RU), the second largest university in the country.
 
With the addition of archery to RU, students of the university will now get 
the opportunity to play archery.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naquib formally inaugurated 
the archery programme in the campus as the chief guest.
 
General Secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) Kazi Razib Uddin 
Ahmed Chapal, who was present on the occasion, handed over the bow and arrow 
to the VC.

Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr. Mohammad Main Uddin, Pro-VC (Academic) Prof 
Dr. Mohammad Farid Uddin Khan, Registrar Prof Dr. Iftikharul Alam Masud, Prof 
of Marketing Department Dr. Md. Faridul Islam, BAF Treasurer Anisur Rahman, 
its training and development committee convener Faruk Dhali, executive 
committee members Sohel Akram and Sheikh Md. Azizur Rahman Bachchu and Coach 
of National Archery Team Martin Frederick were present on the occasion.

There are good prospects for archery at the university, the VC hoped.

Speaking as the chief guest during the inauguration ceremony, he said: "There 
are over 30,000 students at Rajshahi University. If proper practice and 
facilities can be provided, there is a chance of producing skilled archers 
from here. Bangladesh archers are doing very well on the world stage. We also 
want to be a part of that progress. We think our children will welcome the 
sport." he said.

BAF general secretary Kazi Razib Uddin Ahmed Chapal said, "There is an 
opportunity for Bangladesh to play in the World University Games. That 
opportunity should be utilized now. Just like the Olympic Games, the World 
University Games are also held. If we can play in the Olympics, play in the 
Asian Games, play in the South Asian Games, play in the International School 
Games, then why not in the World University Games?"

Chapal has also announced the launch of archery in all universities of the 
country. "We started archery with Dhaka University and introduced it at 
Rajshahi University as the second," he added.

The BAF general secretary said they would go to Chattogram University to 
introduce archery and have also planned to spread archery in all the 
universities of Bangladesh.BSS
