Dhaka, 18 March - After winning the bronze in the recently concluded Asian Women's Kabaddi Championship in Iran, Bangladesh women’s kabaddi team have got a little respite as they started their preparation for the upcoming Women's World Cup Kabaddi.
The women's team have been taking preparation at the Riya Gop Women's Sports Complex in Dhanmondi under the supervision of coaches Shahnaz Parvin Maleka and Arduzzaman Munshi.
The second Women's Kabaddi World Cup will be held in Bihar, India from June 1 to 13 this year while the first Women's Kabaddi World Cup was held in Bihar, India in 2012.
India was the champions in that tournament, while Bangladesh finished the tournament in fifth place.
Bangladesh wants to take their success of Asian Women's Kabaddi Championship to the World Cup.
In this regard, Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation General Secretary SM Newaz Sohag said "The team from Iran has brought success in the Asian Women's Championship. The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation wants such success to be translated into the World Cup as well. Bangladesh finished fifth in the first Women's World Cup in 2012. This time, we are moving forward with the goal of doing better."
SM Newaz Sohag said several plans have been made for the preparation of the women's team. "We will spare no effort to prepare the team for the World Cup. The women's team will be sent to Nepal in late April or early May."
Bangladesh will play a five-match Test series against the host team there. There is a possibility of a tri-nation series in Thailand. This tri-nation series could involve hosts Thailand, Bangladesh and Nepal or Sri Lanka.
Besides, there is a plan to send the women's team to India fifteen days or a month before the World Cup. Discussions are already underway to organize warm-up matches against different local teams there. The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation will do everything possible for the success of women's kabaddi team.BSS
