Army emerge champions in National Wushu competition

Dhaka, 28 July -Bangladesh Army emerged champions in the 18th National Wushu competition that concluded at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday last evening, said a press release today.

Army secured 16 gold in the competition while Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party and Dinajpur district became first and second runners-up respectively. Ansar bagged seven gold, while Dinajpur secured three gold in the meet. 

Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Li Shaopeng was present as the chief guest in the closing ceremony and distributed the prizes.

Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) president Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman presided over the closing ceremony.

Nearly 418 athletes, coaches and officials from 28 teams, including the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, Ansar and VDP and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan participated in competition, organised by BWF.

Meanwhile, a residential training camp will begin at Mirpur Sports Complex from August 1, giving focus on gold and silver medalists coming out of this competition. The federation has planned to find new talented players from this camp for future international competitions.BSS
