Dhaka, Feb 12 – Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain Tuesday said 16 crore people have been deprived of their rights through holding what he said a farcical election on December 30.
“December 30 election has deprived the 16 crore people of their rights in violation of the constitution. The people will never accept it,” he said while speaking at a memorial meeting to mark the death of Rashed Suhrawardy, the son of great leader Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy.
The Ganoforum organised the meeting at Jatiya Press Club as Rashed Suhrawardy breathed his last silently in London on February 7.
Dr Kamal, also president of Ganoforum, a major partner of the Oikya Front, said the December 30 election was a farcical one and a drama.
“The people have been deceived. It was regrettable. Why such an election should be held?” he asked.
He said they would do whatever is needed to overcome the situation.
The eminent jurist said the roles of Suhrawardy would inspire them in carrying out movement to restore the democracy in the country.
President of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal ASM Abdur Rab said the December 30 elction was held in a bid to protect the business interest on mega projects.
The election has undermined the entire nation by snatching the votes and rights of the people, he said.
The JSD leader called for waging tougher movement involvimg the people instead of making to worker-dependent to restore the democracy.
Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury demanded a judicial commission to inveatigate the irregularities in the December 30 election.
BNP leader Dr Abdul Noyeen Khan said the moderate politics has been removed from the country by the last parliamentary elections.
Barriater Mainul Husein said the people have been depeived of their voting eight which is shameful.bGanoforum leader Advocate Subrata Chowdhury accused the prime minister of not keeping her words that she given during her dialogue with them before the election.
Ganoforum general secretary Mostafa Mohsin Montu, Lt Gen (Retd) Absar Amin and AOM Shafiqullah, among others, also spoke on the occassion. – Staff Reporter
