DMP steps up Eid-ul-Azha security, vows crackdown on crime

Dhaka, May 18 — Newly appointed Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed on Monday said special police drives against extortionists, muggers and drug traders are continuing ahead of Eid-ul-Azha 2026, urging all to play responsible roles in keeping the city and the state safe and functional.

He made the remarks while presiding over a coordination meeting on overall security and traffic management in the city  for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha at the conference room of the DMP headquarters.

“The state and the city belong to all of us. Everyone has to play a responsible role from their respective positions to keep the city and the state beautiful and functional,” the DMP commissioner said.

He also said launches would not be allowed to carry excess passengers during the Eid period and urged the authorities concerned not to carry out road excavation works in the city at this time.

The DMP commissioner called on all government agencies to work in coordination to ensure safe and hassle-free Eid travel for people.

Representatives from different intelligence agencies, specialised police units, the Department of Shipping, Bangladesh Road Transport Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Federation, Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners’ Association, Bangladesh Truck Drivers Workers Federation, Bangladesh Bus-Truck Owners’ Association, launch workers’ association, BKMEA, BGMEA, Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), BIWTA, Roads and Highways Department, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka North City Corporation, Fire Service and Civil Defence, bus and launch owners’ associations, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport organisation and several government and private service-providing agencies attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the overall security plan through a PowerPoint presentation.

Representatives of different organisations later took part in an open discussion and shared their opinions.

Among others, DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Md Nazrul Islam, Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md Masud Karim, Additional Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam , Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Md Anisur Rahman, joint commissioners, deputy commissioners and police officials of different ranks were present. - UNB
