527 arrested in Dhaka in 24 hrs, crude bomb, gun powder seized

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 527 people in the capital over the past 24 hours and filed 55 cases during regular anti-crime operations.


The arrests were made in different areas of the capital, with Mirpur registering the highest number at 146, followed by Tejgaon with 79, Motijheel 63, Wari 57, Ramna 52, Uttara 45, Lalbagh 43, Gulshan 41 and the Detective Branch one.

Police said they also recovered an unexploded crude bomb, 500 grams of gunpowder, 250 grams of petrol, nails and other materials allegedly used in explosives, as well as 54.245 kilograms of cannabis, 4,115 yaba tablets, 21 grams of heroin and 50 bottles of cough syrup identified as Phensedyl.

Other items recovered included a private car, knives, a machete, a small pair of scissors, a cutter, 14 mobile phones, two machines allegedly used to make yaba, various chemicals, Benelia powder, paint, empty bottles and materials used in yaba production, reports BSS.

Police also rescued two victims during the operations.

Legal proceedings against the arrested people are underway.
