The government today dismissed seven police officers, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, from services for remaining absent from their workplaces without permission.

The ministry of home affairs today issued seven separate gazette notifications in this regard.

According to a notification, former DB chief Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid has been dismissed from his service for remaining absent at workplaces without permission.

It said the dismissal will take effect from August 6, 2024.

Another notification said former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md Anisur Rahman was dismissed from the service of Bangladesh Police from February 17, 2025.

The government dismissed services of former additional DIG of Tourist Police Shyamal Kumar Mukherjee from January 22, 2025, former superintendent of police in Lakshmipur Tarek Bin Rashid from November 17, 2024, additional superintendent of police SM Jahangir Hasan from October 23, 2024, DMP assistant police commissioner Md Moniruzzaman Sarkar from July 1, 2019 and DMP Traffic Division assistant police commissioner Farhana Taskin was also dismissed from the date of fleeing the work place.

The gazette cited unauthorised absence from duty, misconduct and failure to return to their workplaces after travelling abroad as grounds for dismissal.

It said the charge of absconding against them had been proved beyond reasonable doubt, prompting the disciplinary action under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.

In addition another notification said Kazi Mizanur Rahman, former assistant commissioner of DMP's Tejgaon Division, has been sent into compulsory retirement, reports BSS.

An allegation that he had an extramarital relationship was found to be proven, which the notification described as “misconduct”.
