Police-BNP clash: 12 leaders, activists remanded

A Dhaka court today placed 12 leaders and activists of BNP on one-day remand each in a case filed about their clash with police in the capital's Science Lab area on May 23.

The 12 remanded BNP men are- former Acting General Secretary of BNP Dhanmandi thana unit Shahadat Hossain Soikat, Saiful Islam, Ripon Hossain, Md Ruhul, Md Abdus Salam, Md Sujon, Md Nazrul Islam, Shafiqur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Sabbir Ahmed, Aminul Islam and Shah Alam.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid of Dhaka CMM Court passed the order after police produced BNP men in the court and pleaded to place them on three-day remand each. The same court sent 15 other BNP people to the jail in the case.

BNP men locked in battle with police after the party brought out an anti-government procession in the capital's Science Lab area on Tuesday. Later, they vandalized several vehicles and a police box at Dhanmandi-3 road crossing.

Police filed the case against 52 leaders and activists of BNP and many other unnamed persons with Dhanmandi Police Station in the capital. - Special Correspondent
