Keraniganj, May 27 --A total of 108 leaders and activists of the BNP, including its central executive committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury, were sued on Saturday in connection with an Awami League-BNP clash in Keraniganj on Friday.

Sumon Miah, president of Zinzira union Swechchha Sebok League, filed the case at Keraniganj Model Police Station, said Mamun-or-Rashid, officer-in-charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station.

"We have already arrested nine people in connection with the clash. We have sent them to a court seeking remand for interrogation," said the OC.

The drive is underway to arrest the others accused, he added.

The clash left around 50 people injured.

On Friday morning, Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, brought out a procession from Zinzira Chatgaon area heading towards their Keraniganj party office to press home their 10-point demand, including the resignation of the government and holding the national polls under a non-partisan government.

As the procession was passing by the local AL office, both the AL and BNP activists started shouting slogans. At one stage, a clash broke out between the two groups.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. - UNB
