Policeman beaten up by shopkeepers in Kalapara

A police constable beaten up allegedly by some shopkeepers in Kalapara on Sunday.

Patuakhali: Police constable Md. Sohail (25) was beaten and injured by some businessmen in Kalapara municipality town under the district. The incident took place at Tasin Fashion House of Syed Super Market around 8:30 pm on Saturday. After the incident, the police seized the CCTV footage of the area. A case has been filed in the police station in the name of 7/8 people with Zahirul Islam as the main accused. The business was closed immediately after the incident. However, no accused was arrested.

According to local sources, on that incident night police constable Sohail, who is working at  Kalapara PS, went Tasin Fashion House in Syed Super Market at around 8:30 pm on Saturday. At that time Sohail (Constable No. 1200) was engaged hot talk with shop owner's Zahirul Islam for the price. At a stage  some employees around the shop attacked constable Sohail. He received injuries on his head and hands. The locals rescued him and admitted him to the upazila health complex. After this incident, police gheraud the surrounding area for some time.

On this side, the businessmen around the scene are not interested to open their mouths about it.

Md. Jasim, OC of Kalapara PS, said that no innocent people will be harassed in the attack on the police constable. However, he mentioned that legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident. - Gofran Biswas Palash
