The arrested is identified as Abdul Latif, nephew of the victim, a resident of Dendabar Uttarpara area under Ashulia Police Station.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday arrested the main accused in the killing of a trader, who was slaughtered in Savar upazila near Dhaka on Tuesday (February 6), from Ashulia union under the upazila.

The arrested is identified as Abdul Latif, nephew of the victim, a resident of Dendabar Uttarpara area under Ashulia Police Station.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Legal and Media Wing Director of RAB, confirmed the information on a press briefing at Karwanbazar RAB media centre on Friday morning.

Quoting the arrested, the RAB official said there had been a longstanding dispute between the arrested and the victim, Kazim Uddin Madbar, 50, owner of a dairy farm. On the night of February 6, Kazim was resting in a room of his 'Lippi Dairy Farm'. At that time, Latif entered into the room and locked into an argument with him. At one stage of the argument, Latif got enraged and hacked on his uncle's neck with a sharp machete, leaving him dead on the spot.

On Wednesday morning, when the owner's wife unlocked the room, she found Latif's slaughtered body and informed police, said Commander Khandaker Al Moin.

Later, she lodged a murder case with the concerned police accusing unnamed persons.

Following the case, RAB started investigating the case and arrested the accused from Ashulia union, he said.

The legal actions were underway in this regard, added the RAB official.
