Woman ‘kills self’ after poisoning two daughters in Chandpur

Police and local sources said that Tania and Kawser had an altercation over phone on extra marital affair and other family issues on Tuesday night.



A woman reportedly committed suicide after feeding her two children pesticide following an altercation with her expatriate husband over phone at Haziganj upazila of Chandpur on Tuesday night.

The woman was Tania Akter, 27, wife of Malaysian expatriate Kawser Ahmed. The two children Tabassum, 8, and two and half year old Fateha are now undergoing treatment at Chandpur Government Hospital.

Police and local sources said that Tania and Kawser had an altercation over phone on extra marital affair and other family issues on Tuesday night. 

Later, Tania fed her two daughter pesticide at their house at Bakila Uttar Sreepur Khamarbari in Haziganj upazila of the district. 

Hearing the screaming of the children, other family members rushed to the spot found Tania dead. They rescued the children and took them at the hospital.

Officer-in-charge of Haziganj police station Mohammad Abdur Rashid said that they suspected the woman committed suicide over family feud. Her body was sent to the morgue for autopsy. 

The two children are now undergoing treatment at the hospital. Detailed could be informed after investigation, he added.
