Dhaka, Jan 31 - A Dhaka court on Sunday placed 10 persons including city’s Eden College unit former Chhatra League Joint Convener and Bogura Dudchachia Upazilla Vice Chairman Mahbuba Nasrin Rupa on remand for different durations in two cases filed on charges including leaking question papers for the recruitment test of Bangladesh Defence Accounts’ Auditor General office.
On Sunday, Metropolitan Magistrate Tamanna Farah granted four days’ remand of six persons including Mahbuba Nasrin Rupa in the case filed with Ramna Model Police Station after hearing the submissions of the prosecution and defence.
On January 21, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB), conducted raid in Mirpur, Kakrail and Tejgaon Industrial areas and arrested the 10 accused. During the operation police recovered different important items from them including air devices, master card mobile seams, bank checks, non-judicial stamps and smart phones. Besides, some leaked answer papers also found with them. These items were seized.
On January 22, they were put on two days’ remand and after the remand, Detective Branch Gulshan Division Zonal Team SI Md Abdul Hannan produced them in the court and appealed to the court to keep them in the jail.
After hearing, the court directed to send Noman Siddiqui 42, Naimur Rahman Tanjir 18, Shahidullah 26 and Mahmudul Hasan Azad 45 to the jail.
On the other hand, the prosecution appealed to keep Upazila Vice Chairman Mahbuba Nasrin Rupa, Al-Amin Azad Roni, 30, Md Rakibul Hasan 26, Md Hasibul Hasan 24, Md Nahim 26 and Md Raju Ahmed in the jail. DB Combined Offences and Car Theft Team SI Shahidur Rahman appealed to the court while court acceded to the appeal.
Question leakage through electronic devices has been primarily proved against the 10 accused and so two separate cases have been filed against them under sections 23/24/35 of the Digital Security Act. On the day, prosecution appealed to the court for 10 days’ remand of the accused while the court fixed January 30 (Sunday) for hearing on the remand plea. – Special Correspondent
