Alleged robber killed in reported 'Gunfight' with BGB in Bandarban

Cox’s Bazar, June 3 – A suspected robber was killed in a reported gunfight between members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and drug peddlers along the bordering area under Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Nizam, an alleged robber of Khurushkul union in Cox’s Bazar district.

Abdul Mannan, officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, said a patrol team of BGb challenged a group of drug peddlers led by Nizam around 5 am.

The drug peddlers also set fire to the motorbike of the BGB.

At one stage, the drug peddlers opened fire on BGB, prompting them to fire back, triggering a gunfight at Morichhaya of the bordering area.

According to the BGB, acting on secret information, the BGB members in a drive seized 98 cartoons of Burmese Cigarettes and 20,000 pieces of Yaba pills.

However, the BGB confirmed that a man was injured during the gunfight. - UNB
