Five quota reform coordinators now in DB Police custody

Quota reform coordinators Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah were taken to DB custody on Saturday.



Two more coordinators of the anti-disparity student movement have been taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). They are Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah.

On Saturday (July 27) night, DB Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Junaid Alam Sarkar confirmed the matter.

Earlier on Friday (July 26) afternoon, three coordinators of the movement, Nahid Islam, Asif Mahmud and Abu Bakr Majumdar, were taken into DB custody while undergoing treatment at the capital's public health center. Later in the night, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Harun Or Rashid confirmed the matter.

Junaid Alam said, Sarjis and Hasnat were taken into DB custody on Saturday evening. The two have also been taken into custody to provide personal security and get information about recent developments.

In this regard, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner and DB Chief Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid said that they were brought to the DB office for security and interrogation.

These five coordinators of the quota reform movement in DB custody are students of Dhaka University. Among them, Nahid Islam of the 2016-17 academic year of the Department of Sociology; Asif Mahmood of Linguistics Department 2017-18 academic year; Abu Bakr Geology Department of 2019-20 academic year; Sarjis Alam is a student of Zoology Department and Hasnat Abdullah is a student of English Department in the academic year 2016-17.
