One held over rape and murder of a teenager in Gaibandha

The teen-aged girl was reportedly gang-raped and murdered in Gobindganj upzila

Gaibandha, Aug 31 - Police have recovered the body of a teenage girl who was reportedly gang-raped and murdered in Gobindganj upzila of Gaibandha on Saturday.

Authorities have detained Raja Mia, a neighbour, on suspicion of involvement in the crime. Asaduzzaman Asad, officer-in-charge of Gobindganj Police Station, confirmed the matter.

Victims parents have been taken into custody for questioning, added the OC,

According to the locals, the victim was last seen having conversation with her neighbours near her home on Friday night. When she did not return home, her family began searching for her.

Despite their efforts, they were unable to find her. The following day, on Saturday afternoon, villagers discovered her body in a nearby jungle and informed her relatives and the police.

Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body on Saturday evening and sent it to the Gaibandha District Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Investigators suspect that several people from the neighborhood may have lured or forcibly taken her to the jungle, where she was raped. When her condition worsened, the assailants reportedly killed her and fled the scene.

It is still too early to determine the exact cause of her death, added the police official.-UNB
