Police act decisively to foil abduction of tourists in Khagrachari

Khagrachari, Sept 24 - Two tourists and a driver of a vehicle were rescued by police from an alleged kidnapping attempt while returning to Khagrachari from Sajek.

Those who were rescued were identified as SM Nahiduzzaman, 38, Mamun Fakir, 38 and Zobair Alam, 28. All of them hail from Faridpur district.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, when the two tourists, riding on a vehicle, were heading towards Khagrachari from Sajek.

Quoting victims, police said, some miscreants waylaid the vehicle carrying the tourists and forced them to get down from the vehicle when reached at  Dighinala area.

Later, the miscreants demanded Tk 50 lakh from them.

When the two tourists informed the matter to their families through the miscreants, the family members instantly contacted the police who took prompt action.

After getting phone calls from police, the miscreants managed to flee the scene after releasing them.

Arefin Jewel, superintendent of Khagrachari police, said those who were involved in the attempted abduction incident will be identified and brought to book.

An abduction case will be filed in this regard, he added.-UNB
