Six Banned BCL, AL Activists Arrested in Dhaka

Police arrested six members of the deposed Awami League’s (AL), including Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), during separate drives in the capital over the last two days.

“They were involved in carrying out sudden processions in various parts of the city, attempting to create panic and destabilise public order,” said Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Talebur Rahman.

The arrestees are: Ashraful Islam Naim, senior organisational secretary of Ward-5 unit of Pallabi Thana BCL; Md Ripon Hossain Fahim, general secretary of Jatrabari Thana BCL; Sheikh Md Sohel, vice-president of Ward-59 unit of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Sramik League; Md Sohel Rana, secretary for relief and disaster management of Badda Thana Swechchhasebak League; Mohammad Yamin, organisational secretary of Ward-37 unit of Badda Thana BCL; and Abul Bashar Khan, vice-president of Ward-12 unit of Awami League, reports UNB.

“Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway,” said DC Talebur Rahman.
