Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today said the government remains firmly committed to the development and welfare of people at the grassroots level.

He said the family card programme has already been introduced in line with the government's election manifesto and will be expanded gradually across the country to ensure women's empowerment and social protection.

The minister made the remarks while speaking as a special guest at a family card distribution programme held at Kushakhali Anee Chowdhury High School in Chandraganj upazila of the district this afternoon.

He said the present government is working consistently for public welfare.

He also mentioned that the canal excavation programme initiated by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman has been revived, which would contribute to an agricultural revival and a new phase of rural development.

A total of 1,250 beneficiaries received family cards at the event in Ward No. 5 of Kushakhali Union under Chandraganj upazila.

The programme was presided over by Deputy Commissioner SM Mehdi Hasan.

Lawmakers Abul Khair Bhuiyan and Shahadat Hossain Selim, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Tarek and Zila Parishad Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu were present on the occasion, reports BSS.

Senior government officials, beneficiaries, and leaders of the BNP and its affiliated organisations also attended the programme.
