NCP Calls Nationwide Protests Over Habiganj Attack

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced nationwide protest rallies for Wednesday (July 30), condemning the attack on its procession in Habiganj.

In a press release issued late Tuesday, the party said demonstrations would be held across the country in protest against what it described as an attack on the motorcade of NCP Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam and Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary during a peaceful procession in Habiganj.

The NCP strongly condemned the incident, alleging that activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, organisations affiliated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), carried out the attack.

The party directed its metropolitan, district, upazila and thana units to organise protest rallies and demonstrations in their respective areas.

It also instructed all organisational units to ensure the programmes are held peacefully and in an orderly manner, urging leaders and activists to participate on time.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, a group of youths allegedly attacked the vehicles carrying Nasiruddin Patwary and Sarjis Alam as they were returning after concluding a procession in front of the Habiganj Town Hall.

Several journalists as well as NCP leaders and activists were injured in the incident before police intervened and rescued those affected.

The NCP has blamed local Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal activists for the attack.
