Former prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

Former prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to make her first public appearance since leaving Bangladesh, addressing a virtual event organised by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia (FCC South Asia) in New Delhi on August 5.

The programme, which will be livestreamed on the organisers' social media platforms, is expected to feature Hasina outlining her political plans. It will mark her first public engagement since she left office and travelled to India in August 2024.

Among those expected to participate are Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former cricketer and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan, as well as diplomats, political analysts and rights advocates.

Bangladesh's political landscape has undergone significant changes since Hasina's departure. Following the February 2026 general election, the BNP formed the government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Legal proceedings against several former Awami League leaders are continuing, while the party's political activities remain suspended pending court proceedings.
