BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy has said the party will work to earn the trust of the Hindu community and will not disappoint those who have extended their support to the BNP.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a programme organised by the Shahid Maznu Foundation at Panchabati Ashram in Savar on Friday, where financial assistance was distributed among priests from 46 Durga Puja mandaps.

Gayeshwar said the Awami League benefits when members of minority communities leave the country, while their continued presence allows the party to exploit their land and votes, he alleged.

He said the BNP-led government would seek to gain the community's support by working for its welfare.

Referring to assistance for Durga Puja, Gayeshwar said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had allocated Tk 5 crore in financial assistance for the festival for the first time. He also mentioned the provision of 600 kilograms of rice for each puja mandap and assistance from the Hindu Welfare Trust.

The BNP leader urged law enforcement agencies to ensure maximum security during the festival so that no untoward incidents occur.

The programme was chaired by former Dhaka District BNP Joint Secretary Khorshed Alam. Local lawmaker Dr Dewan M Salauddin Babu, former JUCSU vice-president Ashraf Khan, Dhaka District Swechhasebak Dal Convener Nazmul Hasan Ovi, Dhaka District Chhatra Dal President Tamij Uddin and leaders of the Puja Celebration Parishad also attended, reports BSS.
