Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said that their party stands against communalism and the falsehood of BNP.

In response to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's remark - "Awami League has taken a stand against the people", he said: "The birth of Awami League was on the street. AL will always stay on the street and never leave it. AL stands against communalism and BNP's lies. It never goes against the people."

Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, was speaking at the triennial conference of Mohammadpur Thana and Ward unit of Awami League at Mohammadpur Town Hall in the capital.

Referring to the Sitakunda fire and explosions, he said, "The detectives concerned have all information - whether it is a sabotage or accident."

He added that the authentic information will come out through proper investigation.

"Don't play with fire," he said, adding that the consequence will not be good if the BNP plays with fire.

Pointing to the persons responsible for Sitakunda fire and explosions, he said those doing such things will have to get burnt in that flame.

With Mohammadpur Thana Awami League President Principal MA Sattar in the chair, the conference was addressed, among others, by AL Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Publicity and Publication Secretary of AL Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua, Dhaka North City Unit of AL President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman, General Secretary SM Mannan, Lawmaker Sadek Khan Kochi and Mohammadpur Thana unit of AL General Secretary Matiur Rahman, reports BSS.
