Lawmaker ‘threatens’ RU professor over 2009 book

Rajshahi: Rajshahi University Bangla department chairman professor Dr. Sarker Sujit Kumar was allegedly threatened by the goons of the member of parliament of Natore-2 constituency and district Awami League general secretary Shafiqul Islam Shimul.

Professor Saker Sujit Kumar on July 29 filed a general diary with the Boalia Police Station of Rajshahi city against the lawmaker demanding the safety of his family and properties.

According to the general diary, Professor Sarker Sujit Kumar in 2009 wrote a book on history, heritage and the liberation war of Natore District. He made a list of the war criminals of the district by collecting information from the local people. Lawmaker Shafiqul Islam Shimul’s father was listed as a war criminal in that book that’s why the lawmaker is threatening the professor.

Professor Sujit Kumar said, MP Shimul’s goons on July 26 threatened me using rough language through a press conference and that was published in some Media. I filed a GD for the safety of me and my family.

GD investigation officer SI Nadim Uddin said, We will investigate and varify the allegation and take action against the real culprit. – RU Correspondent
