Court sends 11 BNP men to jail for attacking Justice Manik

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent 11 leaders and activists of BNP and its student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal to the jail on completion of their two-day remand in a case lodged over alleged attack on former Supreme Court Judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order on the day.

Earlier, police produced them in the court and pleaded to keep them behind the bar till the end of the investigation of the case.

The 11 accused people are- Maksudur Rahman Sumit, Md Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Md Robin Khan, Md Sagor, Md Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, Md Harun Ur Rashid, Motiur Rahman, Shamim Rahman, Jamal Hossain, Ariful Islam and Abu Taher.

The same court also placed BNP activist Abul Bashar on a two-day remand in the case.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari on November 3 had placed 11 leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on a two-day remand each.

Md Rafiqul Islam, gunman of the former apex court judge filed the case with Paltan Police Station on November 2 against 40/50 unnamed leaders and activists of BNP for attack on Justice Manik, his driver, and vandalizing his car. - Special Correspondent
