Police baton charge BNP workers at Nayapaltan

Police charged baton on supporters of BNP activists and dispersed them in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on Thursday afternoon.



Police charged baton on supporters of BNP activists and dispersed them in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on Thursday afternoon.

According to witnesses, a group of BNP workers gathered at Nightingale crossing at about 3.45pm and started staging protest there. On-duty police members charged baton on them at that time and chased them Paltan crossing from Nightingale.

Sound of explosion was also heard at that time, said the witnesses.

The shopkeepers also closed their shops on both sides of the road in Bijayanagar area amid panic.

Police have already been taken position in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan office following a clash held between supporters of the party and police. Traffic movement on Nayapaltan road is suspended since Thursday morning.

Three cases have been filed against more than 3,000 leaders and workers of BNP over the clash.
