Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain addressing a discussion meeting of the Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad at the National Press Club on Saturday.

Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, senior member, BNP standing committe said on Saturday that the people want to bid farewell to the government at the earliest possible time.

Addressing a discussion meeting on Victory Day in the present context organised by the Sammilita Peshajibi Parishad, he said that a 10-point demand voiced from the Dec 10 mass rally of the BNP was not of the party but of the people.

Khandakar Mosharraf recalled the glorious role played by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in the War of Liberation and said that the government distorted history to cover up their failures.

Referring to PM Sheikh Hasina's recent allegation that the BNP hired foreigners to propagate ills of Bangladesh abroad he invited the PM to prove this. Rather, he argued the activities of the government and the Awami League earned bad named for the country.

Referring to the 1974 famine and the creation of BKSAL the following year, he said these were developments of the AL time that tarnished the image of the country. Similarly extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances took place during the rule of the AL. The sanctions on RAB and Police officials that came as a result were matters of shame for the nation. The stage-managed elections of 2014 and 2018 were known to the world at large, he said.

Khandakar Mosharraf said that the recent attack on BNP's central office and the obstructions created in the way of the party's divisional rallies were observed by people from all over the world and did not need hiring people from abroad to spead such information

He said that strongmen like Ayub Khan and HM Ershad gave in to people's power. The recent developments in Sri Lanka were a reassertion of this.Bangladesh would not be an exception, he added.

Presided over by Sammilita Pesajibi Parishad convener Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain and conducted by its member-secretary Kader Gani Chowdhury, the discussion meeting was also addressed by Prof. Yusuf Haider, former pro-vice chancellor of Dhaka University, Prof. Tajmeri S Islam, Dr, MA Quddus, sr journalist Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Adv Masus Alam Talukdar, Sikkhak Karmachari Oikya Jote leader Selim Bhuiyan, Cultural activist Ashrafuddin Ujjal, Engr Rezaul Islam Rizu, Prof. Lutfur Rahman, Zaker Hossain, Prof Shamsul Alam and Prof. Quamrul Ahsan among others.

The Peshajibi Parishad leaders called for carrying forward the on-going people's movement to restore democracy and ensure economic emancipation of the people, the two major ideals of the war of liberation.
