AL govt's ouster a 'must' to tackle political, economic crises

BNP senior leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, who has taken on the role of the party's principal mouthpiece since the arrest of secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir as well as Mirza Abbas on December 9, has said the political and economic crises facing the country cannot be overcome without ousting the AL government from power first.

Speaking at a discussion Sunday at the Jatiya Press Club, he also said the only objective of BNP's 10-point demand is to protect the people of the country from the misrule of the present government.

The BNP leader alleged that people across the country are talking about restoring democracy, establishing social justice and reviving the economy.

“The country’s socio-political, economic and judicial systems have now been destroyed. We must unseat those who have been in power for 14 years by force and by stealing votes. We have to move towards that goal. Otherwise, we would not be able to get out of the crises we are facing now,” he observed.

A faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club, marking the first death anniversary of late journalist Reazuddin Ahmed.

On December 25, 2021 the former BFUJ president and Editor of the Financial Herald Reazuddin Ahmed died of Coronavirus at the age of 76.

Mosharraf, a BNP standing committee member, said people delivered different messages by joining their party’s recent divisional rallies. “We presented the 10-point demand by compiling the messages of the people that we received from all over the country.”

Besides, he said they also unveiled a 27-point outline of ‘Structural Reform of the State’, proposing radical changes to the state system, including balancing the executive powers of the president, prime minister and the Cabinet, and introduction of the upper house of legislature.

The BNP leader said they presented the outline to reform the country, if their party is voted to power after the fall of the current government.

He said their party and the country’s people do not want just a change in power to pave a way for another autocratic government to rule the country. “We want a change so that such a government will be formed that can reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people of this country, overcome the crises and reform the state structure."

Mosharraf recalled the illustrious journalism career of Reazuddin Ahmed and his role in establishing the rights of journalists.

He also paid tributes to the memory of journalist Reazuddin Ahmed and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul, reports UNB.
